Let’s break down the science behind these versatile components. The Core Structure of a Membrane Switch A membrane switch consists of three primary layers: Graphic Overlay : The top layer, typically made of polyester or polycarbonate, features printed icons and tactile domes (for feedback). Spacer Layer : This middle layer includes adhesive material with cutouts, isolating the top and bottom circuits until pressure is applied. Circuit Layer : The bottom layer houses printed silver or copper conductive traces on a flexible substrate (e.g., PET).
